Background | Pneumolysin is a cholesterol-dependent cytolysin, a family of pore-forming toxins. It is one of the major virulence factors of S. pneumoniae, contributing to the pathogenesis of pneumonia and other invasive pneumococcal diseases. Pneumolysin can lyse both host cells and extracellular pathogens, and it also has pro-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects. The toxin forms pores in cell membranes, leading to cell lysis and death. Pneumolysin is also known to induce oxidative stress and activate various signaling pathways involved in inflammation and immunity. Due to its role in disease pathogenesis, pneumolysin has been a target for vaccine development and therapeutic interventions aimed at reducing the burden of pneumococcal infections |
We can offer labeled proteins/antibodies using a broad range of intensely fluorescent dyes and labels including FITC; Biotin; Alexa Fluor; Rhodamine B; Cy; Co-Au.
